“As a new publisher, we have taken care to offer something different – whether that’s our focus on real-world global impact, our investment in cutting-edge new technologies, or our commitment to openness throughout the publishing process,” says Dr Agha. “One of the issues faced by any new publisher is how to quickly build your visibility, reputation and readership. Kudos is a market leader in helping new publishers and journals maximize discoverability and recognition, and it was an easy decision to partner with them to help us accelerate our growth.”

“Premier Science’s emphasis on accessibility, innovation, and responsible AI mirrors our own values. We’re delighted to welcome a partner that shares our vision of making research communication more efficient, equitable, and impactful,” adds Charlie Rapple, co-founder of Kudos.

17th November 2025 – Premier Science implements ROR – a persistent identifier for institutions

Premier Science now requires all authors to select their institution using a ROR-enabled interface. The Research Organisation Registry (ROR) is a global, community-led registry of open persistent identifiers for research organisations. ROR makes it easy for anyone or any system to disambiguate institution names and connect research organisations to researchers and research outputs. It is the default identifier supported in Crossref DOI metadata and ORCID.

ROR is used to disambiguate institutional affiliations, improve discovery and tracking of research outputs by affiliation, and facilitate OA publishing workflows, among other use cases. It is deployed in journal publishing systems, data repositories, funder and grant management platforms, open access workflows, and other research infrastructure components to optimise standardisation. ROR is open, non-commercial and CC0.

10th November 2025 – Premier Science joins the Crossmark programme by Crossref

We are pleased to say that Premier Science, a Crossref member, has now joined the Crossmark programme. All articles will feature a “check for updates” button (see below) on the html and the PDF (see below). The process of updating the archive is ongoing and is expected to be completed in the next week.

Crossmark, from Crossref, provides a standard way for readers to locate the current version of a piece of content. Premier Science recognises the importance of the integrity and completeness of the scholarly record to researchers and librarians, and attaches the highest importance to maintaining trust in the authority of its electronic archive. By clicking the Crossmark button, readers can determine whether changes have been made after publication. It may also provide additional publication record information about the document.

2nd October 2025 – CRediT becomes a mandatory and standardised part of the Premier Science submission workflow

Premier Science now requires corresponding authors to select from the CRediT role taxonomy for each author. No more free text and non-standardised inputs for author contributions. This information will flow through to production and be published with the papers.

CRediT is a community-owned 14 role taxonomy that can be used to describe the key types of contributions typically made to the production and publication of research output such as research articles. In 2022 CRediT was approved as an ANSI/NISO standard.

1st October 2025 – Premier Science becomes an ORCiD member and implements ORCiD as part of the workflow

Premier Science has become a member of ORCiD.  ORCID, which stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID, is a global, not-for-profit organisation. ORCID’s mission is to enable transparent and trustworthy connections between researchers, their contributions, and their affiliations by providing a unique, persistent identifier for individuals to use as they engage in research, scholarship, and innovation activities.

Premier Science will now be identifying authors with their ORCiD as a mandatory part of the submission process through Eworkflow. We will then present the ORCiD as a link in the version of record with the symbol ORCiD after an author’s name. This is a further step towards greater research integrity and assurance for all stakeholders who trust in Premier Science.

“The ORCID integration in eWorkflow makes it simple to connect the right contributions with the correct authors and collaborators. Thanks to this seamless setup, contributions are accurately linked whether they come directly from submitting authors or through the email based workflow for contributors.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with PremierScience and eWorkflow to expand this integration. Our shared goal is to ensure that authors, contributors, reviewers, and editors receive proper recognition for their contributions by adding trusted metadata to ORCID records, strengthening research integrity and supporting a more connected scholarly infrastructure.” Francisco Alsina ORCiD
Engagement Lead, ORCiD.
